HATCH WINS ‘CLASSIC’ WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Aug 24, 2021

Dave Smith aka HATCH is one of the most widely experienced competitors on the circuit.  Competing at the highest level since 2017 he’s seen the Illustrated World Series rapidly evolve over the last 4 years.

Previously HATCH has struggled to make an impact beyond the quarter finals, however if ever there was an example of ‘Persistence Beats Resistance’ HATCH personifies it!  Using his experience, talent and knowledge of our tournament format he entered this competition fresh, rested and with one objective - to win!  Post-Battle evenings in the pub were substituted for early nights and healthy living which when combined with solid planning and good preparation gave him the stamina to deliver consistent knock-out performances.

Opening his World Championship campaign he faced-up to ThatBlokeWilson working with headline: Athletes Celebrated The Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony In An Empty Stadium a closely fought and cagey opener saw HATCH clinch the win using a bold red - announcing his arrival.

Next up confident debutant Amber Anderson was ready to push Dave to his limits as they Battled against headline: This Is What Happened When A Brit And An Aussie Compared Cultures … It was at this point HATCH delivered arguably one of his strongest entries of the tournament.  Amber delivered an equally solid performance but lost the Social Vote seeing HATCH through to a tough Semi-Final Face-Off with ex UK Champ Lawrence Hugh Burns

This matchup saw the guys work with headline: Spider-Man Visited The Vatican And Gifted The Pope His Own Special Mask … A great news story which would play well to both competitors styles.  HATCH once again chose a bold red to bring his piece to life while Lawrence (who wasn’t able to attend in person) used a light Green which didn’t register well across his remote link.  Despite Lawrence winning the technical and interpretation scorecard battle, he was marked down @ 10% to compensate for his home advantage and also lost the social vote 51% - 49% which saw him knocked out and HATCH through to the grand final!

Bookies favourite David Oku having just dispatched (via the social vote) a very focused and talented Lazy Obit was ready to go … The final was underway with both players working to a fantastic headline packed full of narrative: Wimbledon Standing Ovation For Woman Who Helped Develop COVID Vaccine … HATCH pounced at the starting whistle and began drafting his depiction - an energetic vaccine syringe bating away an unruly virus to the merriment of the onlooking crowd.  David despite winning the social vote scored notably lower on both interpretation and personality gifting HATCH a well deserved and hard-earned win!
